CGC Certifies Guinness World Record Collection of Nearly 50,000 Pokémon Cards

In 2020, Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) launched expert grading for collectible cards, including TCGs, sports cards and non-sports cards. Since then, CGC has graded more than 9 million cards, including two Prerelease Raichu (which were once widely regarded as a myth) and a high-grade 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle that sold for more than $1 million. Now, CGC continues to make history by authenticating the Gray Collection, which is certified as holding the Guinness World Record for the largest Pokémon collection in the world — nearly 50,000 cards!

In 2024, a pair of brothers from the United Kingdom brought their massive Pokémon TCG collection to the attention of Guinness World Records. Owen and Conner Gray’s massive collection of 48,339 different Pokémon cards obliterated the previous record (held by Benjamin DeGuire, who had 34,310 different Pokémon cards recorded in 2023) by more than 10,000 cards.

The brothers’ 48,339 cards include ones from each era of the Pokémon TCG, including several exclusive promos, rare vintage holos, modern alternate arts and everything in between. Many of the cards in the Guinness World Record collection are printed in languages other than Japanese and English.

According to the United Press International, Conner said, “We have all of them bar the Dutch language. That became impossible for us to find.”

Owen added, “Anyone with any Dutch 1st Edition [cards], let us know.”

CGC was contacted to verify the collection and ensure its authenticity. Altogether, more than 50,000 cards were submitted to the CGC Grading Room. CGC authenticated 48,339 total cards and encapsulated them with a special Guinness World Records label, with a pedigree of “Part of the Largest Collection of Pokémon Cards.”
