Posted on 26/03/2025

The coveted rookie card of the San Antonio Spurs superstar has already seen bidding reach well into five figures.

An extremely rare and sought-after rookie card that was certified and graded by CGC® of arguably the most popular young star in the NBA is being offered in a Goldin auction. Online bidding is already underway for Goldin's 2025 March Elite Auction, which concludes on March 29, 2025.

The top CGC-certified lot in the sale is a 2023-24 Panini National Treasures Rookie Logoman #RL-WEM Victor Wembanyama graded CGC 9.5 (lot 7). With only five of these rookie cards issued, it has already garnered multiple bids and currently sits at $21,000 with several days left in the auction. Adding to its rarity, this is also the only card of its kind in the CGC Cards Population Report.

Panini's National Treasures series is a premium set that caters to the high-end collector. Similar to other National Treasures sets, Panini's premium release from the 2023-24 basketball season featured just one pack of cards per hobby box. Each pack consists of 10 cards, including four autographed cards, four memorabilia cards, one printing plate card and one base or parallel card.

The most coveted memorabilia cards within National Treasures sets are Logoman cards, especially the Logoman cards of star rookies. Serial numbered to only five cards for the rookies, the Logoman cards are considered huge hits that feature an actual patch of the NBA logo that is found on a player's jersey or shorts. Acquiring the Logoman issue of the NBA's brightest young stars, like the one in this particular Wembanyama rookie card, is a holy grail addition for some basketball collectors.

The 7'3" San Antonio Spurs center took the NBA by storm during his first pro campaign last season, earning the hype bestowed upon him as a generational talent. Turning pro at only 15 years old in France, his rare abilities as an agile big man helped him transition seamlessly to the league after being selected No. 1 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, becoming the most-talked-about prospect since LeBron James came out of high school.

Wembanyama has already made a huge impression on the sport. He concluded his rookie season averaging a double-double on 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists per game. In addition, he was the NBA's top shot blocker, leading the entire league with 3.6 blocks per game as a rookie. For his efforts last season, Wembanyama earned Rookie of the Year honors, an NBA All-Rookie First Team selection and NBA All-Defensive First Team selection.

Although his second season was cut short due to injury, the 21-year-old will look to build on his already impressive resume going forward. The Spurs have a solid mix of young up-and-coming talent paired with seasoned veterans that could help return the team to a perennial championship contender, and the franchise is relying on Wembanyama to be at the core of the team's resurgence.
